As you can see this knife has a clear "etch-out" over the official Remington logo on the main blade tang.  On the back of the tang it reads R-P.
Evidentally this "x" out of the Remington logo is to indicate a knife that was not up to "standard." 

Apparently Remington had very high standards and even though I could find nothing wrong with the look or functionality of the knife it may have been where the bolster and the rivet met and a perfect union was not created, but left the appearance to view the rivet while the bolster was attached.

A true American piece of workmanship!
