I love knives.  Even more, I love stumbling on unique, hard to find knives.Recently in a lot I won this knife with TOLEDO stamped on the tang and very cool etchings.

I searched eBay and discovered the etchings are called damascene.

I Googled: Damascene

Second result led to a website that had this info:
Damaskeening is the application of interlacing gold on iron or steel to produce beautiful decorative designs that has become the trademark of Toledo, Spain for centuries. The art of Damascene was practiced for centuries by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Around the XV century the art work became popular in Europe, and Toledo, Spain became famous worldwide for producing such works of art.

Hope you enjoyed!
